Originally started in a rented house with only four rooms in 1972, the college has been proceeding with well-thought-out Programmes for extension, development and up-gradation with active co-operation from the General Public, University, Govt. and U.G.C. The college, by now, is in possesion of three buildings of its own - two three storied and the other four storied. The College has integrated itself with the society through extensive activities for rural development with particular reference to education, health, self reliance and social awareness in a nearby village, Baraberia, Barasat. Besides, the N.S.S. unit has been functioning. The Alumni Association and Guardian’s Forum function to provide required co-operation for development with their necessary check and balance. The college stands for services to the students and staff. Special services to the students being career counselling, financial aid for poor students, industrial tour, benefit from departmental libraries for Hons. students and those to the staff being benefitted from Staff Welfare Fund, Co-operative Society and advances from Nationalised Banks, Festival advance, Salary Savings Scheme for L.I.C, Tax and Financial Advice. The principle of democratic functioning of the College is upheld with the Governing Body and its sub-committees functioning as per the provisions of the Calcutta University First Statutes, 1979 (as amended).
